First Land-based Source of DHA Essential Nutrients
Nuseed’s omega-3 program will help relieve the pressure on our oceans to supply this essential nutrient for eye, brain, heart, and cardiovascular health, by providing a land-based source.
Estimates indicate over 80% of people worldwide aren’t getting enough omega-3 through the food they eat. Wild fish stocks, the current major source, are already under intense pressure to supply the rapidly growing global demand. Nuseed Omega-3 Canola was developed to provide aquafeed and human nutrition markets with a land-based source.
Nuseed Omega-3 Canola is processed into our proprietary oil ingredients, Aquaterra® for aquafeed and Nutriterra® for human nutrition markets. Both products are more than just alternative sources of omega-3; they are uniquely rich in DHA, a vital building block of good nutrition.
Nuseed received USDA deregulation approval for cultivation in 2018 and doubled its contract production of Nuseed Omega-3 Canola in 2019 by partnering with growers in Montana and North Dakota to produce this valuable new contract crop. Thanks to keen interest from growers in our program, we’ve increased the contract acres again for 2020.
Excellence Through Stewardship (ETS) certification of Nuseed’s Omega-3 program, demonstrates our commitment to stewardship from field to end-use customer. Australian regulators granted approval for the production and use in food and feed in 2017. The Australian approval facilitates additional regulatory applications underway in other markets that recognize Australia as a reference country.
Since 2011, Nuseed has collaborated with the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) and the Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC) in Australia to develop Nuseed Omega-3 Canola with a unique profile that includes long-chain omega-3 fatty acids such as DHA, EPA, and DPA. This profile offers substantial benefits for animal and human nutrition, along with supply advantages that can fill an unmet need and reduce pressure on wild fish stocks. The resulting oil is a reliable land-based source of long-chain omega-3’s that will help address the limitations of fish oil.
