Kyle was raised on a small farm in Minnesota and attended the University of Minnesota Crookston where he received his bachelor’s degree in agronomy. Since he has lived in North Dakota, first working for a farmer’s cooperative in Leeds, then moving west to Dickinson where he worked for Winfield United as a regional agronomist. In 2022 he started his business Agile Agronomy, consulting with farmers and retail clients 

Agronomists Happy Hour Podcast 
Jason and Kyle started the Agronomists Happy Hour podcast in the Fall of 2020 to stay connected with their local peers in agriculture. It has since grown into much more as they connect with those in agronomy over many US states and Canadian provinces each week, sharing a craft beer over happy hour talking about the one thing they are passionate about, agronomy.

Dr. Sam Markell joined the NDSU Department of plant pathology in 2007 as an Extension plant pathologist focusing on broadleaf crop diseases.  The mission of Sam’s program is to develop management tools for economically important diseases, including Phomopsis, downy mildew and rust in sunflower.

Topic: Domestic and International Sunflower Markets

 

John Sandbakken became Executive Director of the National Sunflower Association located in Mandan, North Dakota USA in January 2012. Previous to this he was the International Marketing Director for sixteen years. The National Sunflower Association is a combination of United States sunflower growers and industry members. NSA is a non-profit agricultural organization working in the areas of market development, education, production and utilization research. Previous to working at NSA, Mr. Sandbakken worked for the North Dakota Department of Agriculture’s Marketing Division for eleven years, heading the division for the last seven years. In that position, he assisted various commodity groups and private companies in their international marketing programs.

Ryan attended North Dakota State University for his BS and MSc degree. He graduated with his MSc in the Dept of Plant Sciences in 2010. Shortly after he began working for FMC, covering Western ND, Western SD and Eastern MT. He’s been in his current role as the Technical Service Manager for ND, SD and part of Minnesota since 2015 and resides in West Fargo, ND (previously Bismarck).

Topic: Red Sunflower Seed Weevil and Sunflower Bud Moth in 2023

 

 

Patrick is an entomology Research Specialist with NDSU Extension, where he provides research, extension and field support to state Extension Entomologist Dr. Janet Knodel. Recently, Patrick has been collaborating with Dr. Knodel and entomologists from SDSU conducting research on red sunflower seed weevils, including insecticide testing and surveying for pyrethroid-resistant weevil populations. In addition to his role as Research Specialist, Patrick is the IPM Coordinator for North Dakota. Patrick also is the current chair of the NCERA-222 North Central IPM Coordinators group. Patrick will be celebrating 10 years with the NDSU Extension Service in October of this year.
