Topic: Is this pH Thing Really an Issue?

Kyle was raised on a produce farm in Minnesota starting his passion for agriculture, he received a Bachelor of Science in agronomy from the University of Minnesota Crookston with an emphasis in crop production. He started his career as an agronomist for BTR Farmers Coop in Leeds, ND working there until he moved to Dickinson, ND in 2013 taking a role with Winfield United as a Regional Agronomist. In the Spring of 2022 Kyle started his own consulting business Agile Agronomy working with farm and retail clients.

Topic: Common Planter Issues with Sunflowers

 

Jed Wall is a Field Sales Lead for Nuseed covering parts of the Dakotas, High Plains and TX.


With over 26 years of experience in the sunflower industry, Jed has experience in all facets of the sunflower and sunflower processing industries. With time spent in the R&D and Production fields for Seeds 2000 to Product Management and working as the National Sales Manager, Jed has a significant knowledge on the North American sunflower business. Jed’s familiarity with all aspects of the sunflower industry has provided him with a familiarity of the needs of the entire sunflower supply chain as well as network connections across the United States and globally provide him the background to significantly contribute to all aspects of the sunflower industry. Well known to growers and processors alike, Jed uses his experience to help growers maximize yield and opportunity for their flowers.

Jed resides in Wahpeton, ND and loves the outdoors and is an avid hunter, fisher and gardener. He also serves as a volunteer for many local organizations giving back to agricultural education. Currently Jed serves as Treasurer for Farm Rescue, an organization dedicated to supporting farm families in need, Jed also serves on the Board of Directors for the National Sunflower Association.

Topic: Controlling Below-Ground Insects 

Trey grew up in small town Kenmare, ND where he later graduated with honors in 2018. He started his college career at NDSU in the fall of 2018 and completed a B.S. in Crop and Weed Sciences with an agronomy focus alongside a minor in Agribusiness in December 2021.

He’s worked with two large Co-ops and independent retailers in Western and Eastern North Dakota. Most previously working for BASF as a Business Representative intern under crop protection. He is currently a Precision Platforms Regional Sales Representative with FMC covering a U.S. commercial territory consisting of CA, OR, ID, MN, MT, ND, SD, WA, and Central Wyoming. He is largely involved in the agricultural field and comes from a strong Ag background. Trey is looking forward to continuing to be a part of this dynamic and compelling field and growing towards the future.

Guy Christensen is the Oilseed Marketing Representative for Archer Daniels Midland’s (ADM) softseed processing division with locations in ND, MN and Canada. Guy is responsible for the design and promotion of oilseed and pulse production contracts that provide producers with risk management tools and crop marketing opportunities. Guy originates ingredients for 3 seperate divisions of ADM and also recruits growers for exclusive programs aimed at rewarding those producers demonstrating the best soil health management practices. Guy did serve 12 years as an Industry representative on the Board of the National Sunflower Association as well as terms with canola, biodiesel and soil health groups.

TOPIC: Potential for avoidance of the Red Sunflower Seed Weevil in the Northern Great Plains

Dr. Jarrad Prasifka is a Research Entomologist with USDA’s Agricultural Research service in Fargo, North Dakota. Though Jarrad has worked on insect management in cotton, sorghum, corn and perennial grasses, he has focused on sunflower insect since coming to Fargo in 2011. His research is split between management of insect pests and work on improving sunflower pollination by bees.

Daniel Altepeter is the Owner and President of Air Seeder Parts, LLC headquartered in Grand Forks, North Dakota. Dan grew up on his family farm outside of East Grand Forks, farming throughout his youth, high school, and college years, graduating with a degree in Farm Management. Dan returned to eventually take over the family farm, where he became frustrated enough with his corroded air seeder, that he began to research and eventually assist in engineering his first part – “The Boss Meter Housing” in 2016. Dan’s mission was not only to replicate the OEM meter housing, but to improve and enhance it using stainless-steel, high-quality plastics and incorporating better functionality.  Since then, Dan and his company sell over 150 parts exclusively through John Deere’s A&I Products aftermarket division and continue to grow.

TOPIC: Planting sunflowers with airseeders 

Craig Nice is a Field Engineer at Air Seeder Parts, LLC and owns Nice Ag Services, a custom seeding business near his hometown of Minto, North Dakota. Craig graduated from the John Deere Ag Tech program at North Dakota State College of Science in Wahpeton, ND. Following graduation, he worked at a John Deere dealership for 2 years then went custom harvesting with his in-laws. Their custom combine footprint spanned from Texas to North Dakota. Much of that time was spent right here in Pierre. Craig began farming in 2000 raising small grains, soybeans, corn, and canola. He started his Custom Seeding Operation in 2002, and covers 18,000 acres on average, not including his own crops. You can find him farming and custom seeding April through October and working for Air Seeder Parts November through March.
