Nufarm finalises the purchase of substantially all assets of Yield10 Bioscience Inc.

Last July, Nufarm announced a license agreement with Yield10 Bioscience Inc., which gave us significant rights to Yield 10‘s Omega-3 technology.  Directly after, Nufarm agreed to immediately begin negotiating the purchase of substantially all of Yield10’s assets, including ownership of Yield10’s camelina assets in both the omega-3 sector and most assets in the bioenergy sector. Nufarm successfully acquired substantially these assets in January 2025.

With this acquisition, we have additional access to technology, rights, and proprietary seeds and germplasm that have been developed over the last decade.  Yield10’s Camelina platform fits strategically with Nufarm’s Omega-3 platform, providing EPA and DHA profiles and herbicide tolerance traits that are complementary to those present in Nufarm’s Omega-3 Canola.

“Nufarm’s innovations and capabilities in Camelina are impressive and successful commercialization of this technology could have significant benefits, offering sustainable production of an oil essential for nutrition and wellness to consumers, as well as providing crop diversification to growers. We look forward to the commercialization of omega-3 oils by Nufarm in the years ahead.”  says Professor Angela Karp, Rothamsted director and chief executive officer.

In June, 2024 Rothamsted announced that it had given Yield10 Bioscience, Inc. an exclusive global, commercial license to advanced technology for producing sustainable omega-3 products in Camelina sativa (“Camelina”).This licensing was the final step in a long journey by the scientists at Rothamsted, and the technology they have developed enables the sustainable, plant-based production of omega-3 nutritional oils in Camelina. With the recent acquisition of substantially all Yield 10’s assets, this licensing agreement now becomes part of the Nufarm portfolio.

“We are pleased with the successful close of the asset purchase agreement. This acquisition, and the relationship with Rothamsted are a great fit for the Nufarm portfolio,” said Brent Zacharias, Group Executive, Seed Technologies, Nufarm Limited. “These new Omega-3 traits will help expand our portfolio and offer the additional capabilities for different oil profiles for customers in pharmaceuticals, human nutrition, and aquaculture. We will continue to develop and invest in this innovation to further drive sustainability and, in time, seek to offer a broadened portfolio of solutions for our customers both at the farm gate and downstream. “
