The freshwater research study by NOFIMA, one of Europe’s largest institutes for applied research in the fields of aquaculture and fisheries confirmed there were no health or growth differences between fish fed Nuseed’s omega-3 canola and those fed fish oil.
The salmon fed Aquaterra®, Nuseed’s omega-3 canola, had the same omega-3 levels as salmon fed with fish oil.
“It gives the aquaculture industry confidence that Aquaterra is an excellent alternative to fish oil,” says Nuseed Omega-3 Global General Manager, Benita Boettner. “One hectare of our omega-3 canola has the potential to provide the omega-3 oil from 10,000 kg of fish.
“Aquaterra is a sustainable alternative to fish oil which will help relieve pressure on wild fish stocks while meeting the growing global demand for increased omega-3 consumption.”
Nuseed has received regulatory approval of omega-3 canola in Australia and deregulation approval for cultivation in the United States.
