The US White House recently launched a Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) Grand Challenge targeting 3 billion gallons of SAF production by 2030 and 35 billion gallons by 2050 to reach net-zero targets. The Department of Energy (DOE), Department of Transport (DOT) and USDA entered into a formal memorandum of understanding following the White House roundtable to coordinate the Grand Challenge. This initiative and the Nuseed Carinata Low Carbon Fuels Program share similar carbon reduction goals.
Nuseed Global Group Executive, Brent Zacharias was invited to attend the White House Sustainable Aviation Fuel roundtable launching the Grand Challenge initiative.
“Nuseed welcomes the announcements made supporting the Grand Challenge and rapid expansion of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). This is a great opportunity for agriculture and advanced feedstocks,” said Zacharias.
“Our low carbon fuel feedstock, Nuseed Carinata, is ready to help companies and governments meet net zero carbon goals without requiring additional farmland, while contributing to feed production. It was recently listed by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) as an eligible feedstock for SAF having greenhouse gas (GHG) savings similar to waste and residuals like used cooking oil. It’s a drop-in solution for processors that is already proven and scalable for large-scale sustainable commercial production.”
Nuseed Carinata is a low GHG, Roundtable on Sustainable Biomaterials (RSB) certified, extensively proven drop-in SAF feedstock. The cover crop’s sustainable and readily scalable production has the potential to be grown regionally between soybean, cotton and corn hectares in the United States.
Recently Nuseed Carinata, was listed by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) to have GHG savings similar to waste. The Nuseed Carinata regulatory team is currently working with US officials towards SAF tax credit framework inclusion. Commercially grown as a cover crop in South America, Nuseed Carinata is already supporting GHG reduction goals under European Renewable Energy Directive policy.
