“N4H161 CL is a specially developed product, positioned for short growing seasons and double-crop systems,” explains Jeremy Klumper, Nuseed Sunflower Breeder. “It provides an opportunity to expand into regions where growers may not have previously considered sunflower as a fit; such as regions with higher elevation and/or less growing degree days during the short summer season.”
Another positive attribute of N4H161 CL is the shortened plant height, allowing for a grower to use a ground rig for mid- and late- season pesticide applications, saving them the cost of an aerial applicator. “Having sunflowers added to a rotation is an excellent way to utilize additional nutrients and moisture further in the soil profile and break up hard pans with the powerful taproot,” he notes.
